Adding an Image to a Page/Post

Uploading and Adding Images on your site

Image are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT when it comes to the succes of a Parent Group website. Our years of testing have shown that sites with images have 25% more consistent traffic and almost double the amount of time spent on the site by a visitor. Adding images to your Digital PTO website is easy and we highly encourage you to use images in as many News Posts as possible for the best results.

A few things to keep in mind

Our free plans come with limited storage space. If you plan on uploading quite a few documents and or images to your Digital PTO site we would highly suggest upgrading to a Premium Plan. Digital PTO supports most popular image formats. Individual Files sizes are limited to 15 MB.

Featured Images

Many of our Themes offer the ability to assign a FEATURED IMAGE and this image will become the Thumbnail Image for a Page or Post. Featured Images are not covered in this tutorial, so please visit our Featured Image Tutorial for more information.

Step 1: Open the Page or Post you want to add an Image to

select-page

Adding a image is the same whether you are using a News Post or an Informational Page. We will be using a News Post for this sample. Once you have the list of Posts available, click the Title of the Post you want to add the image to. If you are creating a new post, go ahead and start a new News Post and move to the next step.

Step 2: Specify where you want to Add the Image

click-loaction

Once you have a Post or Page opened, click within the body of the text to select the spot where you would like to insert the image.

Step 3: Click the Add Media Button

Now click the Add Media Button to open the Upload Options

Images from your Computer

You can upload images from your computer or you can add images you’ve already uploaded. The following instructions are for uploading from your computer. We will cover uploaded files after this section.

Step 4: Go to the Upload Files Option

upload-files-tab

This option may already be selected, but if you are on the Media Files Screen (shown above) that has all of your previously uploaded images and documents, click the UPLOAD FILES Option to open the upload options.

Step 5: Select the Image to Upload

select-files

Click the SELECT FILES button and locate the image you wish to upload from your computer’s hard drive. You may also drag an image from one of your computers folders directly into the upload screen if you prefer.

An overview of the upload screen

Once your upload completes you will be taken to the Media Library and your recent upload will be checked. The right side of the page shows you the details about the image. We’ll explain those further down.

Step 6: Select the Alignment for your Image

alignment

Once your image uploads, you will be taken to the Media Library and your image will be selected. On the right side of the screen you will see various options. Toward the bottom you will see the ALIGNMENT options. These options will specify where the image should be placed in relation to the other content on your page. It can be to the Left, Right, Center or have no alignment. We typically recommend setting either Left, Right or Center for most images, but this is up to you.

Please note that some themes override alignment options. If you are not seeing the results you want after setting the alignment, this may be the cause of that. The only solution to this is to select a different theme.

Step 7: Determine the Link Option for your Image

linkto

There are 4 options available to you in regards to what will happen if a user clicks on the image you are uploading in your post. It can link to the image (and typically expand/enlarge it), it can link to a custom URL (i.e. different page), it can link to the Attachment Page (not suggested) or it can do nothing. The choice is up to you. If you do not have a preference, our suggestion is to set the LINK TO to go to the Media File.

If you do opt for the Custom URL option, you will then need to specify the URL (webpage) you want to link the image to. This is good for sign up style images, etc.

Step 8: Select the Size of the Image

select-size

One of the many great things about Digital PTO is that you don’t need to size your images perfectly before you upload them, we take care of that for you. Depending on the original size of your image, we will create up to 4 size variations automatically. We will create a Thumbnail (small square), a medium size, a large size and the original size. Again, this depends on how large your original image is. Select the size that best fits your needs from the SIZE drop down list.
PRO TIP! If you would like to change the default image sizes available to you, that can be done under SETTINGS > MEDIA. You can specify the Thumbnial, Medium and Large dimensions there. Please note, this only effects future images and does not alter images previously uploaded.

Step 9: Insert your Image and Preview it

insert

Once you have adjusted all of your settings to your needs, click the Insert Into Post/Page Button and take a look at how it all looks.

Tip: Editing an Image already Inserted

If you would like to make changes to an image that has already been inserted, click on the image and then click the small Mountain Icon over the image. This will allow you to shrink the image a little more and / or change the link associated with the image. Note: We find it easier to remove the image and start over vs. using this option too frequently.

Tip: Deleting / Removing an Image

delete

To remove an image, click the image and then click the Delete Icon. This will remove the image from your Page or Post. Note, this will NOT delete the image from your Media Library, so it can be used again with ease.

Tip: Using an Image Already Uploaded to your Site

previous-upload

You do not need to re-upload an image if it’s already been uploaded to your site and you want to use it again. Click the ADD MEDIA Button and instead of going to the Upload Files Tab, click on the MEDIA LIBRARY tab and you will see all of your previously uploaded Images and Documents. Click on the Image you wish to use and the same options we outlined above (size, link, etc) will be available to you.
